Article 2: SGA Announces Officer Nominees / At a student body meeting on February 6, the slate of nominees for the 1963-64 Student Government Association president and the Honor Council president was announced. SGA presidential candidates are Carolyn Hawker, Van Newman and Bonnie Ramsey. / Carolyn Hawker lives in Oak Hall and is an art major. Her activities in the past two years have included membership in the Oriental Club, the Art Club and Le Cercle Francais. Carolyn also has served as a hall chairman, is presently the vice president of the junior class and is directing the committees for the Ring Dance. Her campaign manager is Joan Dolan. / Van Newman is a history major from Danville. She has served on the Research and Evaluation Committee of SGA, and has been chairman of the Welfare and the Grace Minutes Committees. Van held the position of treasurer in Marshall dorm last year and is Westmoreland president in the current session. She was also a class usher and a hall chairman. Anne Liady is acting as Van’s campaign manager. / The third candidate for SGA president is Bonnie Ramsey, a home economics major from Phoenixville, Pa. She is presently the president of Virginia dorm. Bonnie has been co-chairman of the House Presidents Training Program, a member of SGA Legislative Council, and a member of the Campus Evaluation Committee. She is also the secretary of Alpha Phi Sigma, vice president of Kappa Omicron Phi, SEA reporter and social chairman, and a member of the Home Economics Club. Her campaign manager is Kris Butler. / The candidates for Honor Council president are Alice Andrews, Pat Flynn and Betty Gregory. Alice Andrews hails from Richmond and is an English major. Serving as president of her Sophomore class. Alice also held a position on the Honor Council. This year she is an SGA Judicial Representative. Alice is a member of Sigma Tau Delta and has served as Willard vice president and a member of May Court in 1962. She was the recipient of the Outstanding Sophomore Award. Donna Glaspey is Alice’s campaign manager. / Pat Flynn, a medical technology major from Tampa, Florida, is presently a freshman counselor, and a member of the Terrapin Club, the Newman Club and Mu Alpha Chi. Kay Hatcher is serving as Pat’s campaign manager. / Betty Gregory resides in Tunstall and is a psychology major. She is a member of the Home Economics Club and the Physical Therapy Club. She is currently the house president of Willard. Ruth Hall is Betty’s campaign manager. / Publicity for these six candidates has been on campus during the past week, and buzz sessions have been held in the dorms. Campaign speeches will be given on February 18 at 6:45 in GW Auditorium with voting after the speeches. Run-off elections, if necessary, are scheduled for the following day, and the results will be announced at 6:45 that evening in the Student Body meeting.
