Item 1: THE TRUMPETER / A publication of/MWC Young Republicans / BOX 2464 COLLEGE STATION FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA / Vol.I, No.V Februrary, 1968 / MARGARET LAWRENCE TO SEEK STATE OFFICE / The annual Conventions of the State Young Republican Federation and the Region III College Young Republicans Federation will convene next month. Those conventions always provide the political and social highlights of the year, giving the club members and opportunity to meet the YR’s from, all over the state and region, participate in convention politics and have their views heard where it counts. / The state convention will prove to be particularly exciting this year because one of our own club members, Margaret Lawrence will be running for the office of Secretary in the College Federation. Margaret is a Junior Political Science major at MWC and is presently the membership Chairman for the MWC Young Republicans. She has also served as Co-Chairman of the Publicity Committee for the YR’s and in her two years of active service has held many other positions and participated actively in State YR functions. In seeking this office, Margaret is running on a slate headed by Bill Wright, Chairman of the U. Va. YR’s. Others running on this slate include Liz Medaglia, Chairman of the Sweetbriar YR’s, and Paul Scott, Chairman of the William & Mary YR’s and son of our Congressman, William L. Scott. Opposing Bill Wright for the State College Chairmanship is Gil Davis, of the U. Va. Law School YR’s. At the moment, Davis appears to be running well behind and Wright’s slate seems headed for victory. / The State Convention will begin on Friday night, March 1st and run through Sunday. The MWC YR’s will be chartering a bus to the convention providing free transportation to all MWC delegates and alternates to the convention and back. The $12.00 Registration fee will include a Chairman’s reception on Friday evening and a luncheon and banquet on Saturday in addition to all of the parties which will take place on Friday and Saturday evening. After the Friday night reception there will be caucuses, campaigning, committee meetings, open hospitality suites, and parties. The convention itself will run all day Saturday followed by the banquet, and more parties. The activities will end on Sunday morning with an Executive Board meeting. / The Region III Convention will begin on Friday evening, March 15, in Staunton, and will be of a similar nature, except that all colleges from D.C., Maryland, W. Va., and Kentucky will also be represented and we will be adopting a platform in addition to electing officers. (End of document)
