As a member of the MWC YR’S you will receive this newsletter each month, and I sincerely hope that this will be an effective instrument in closing the communications gap within the club. By reading the newsletter, and noting the dates of our activities, you will have a greater opportunity to support the programs and projects of the club. This year we are offering a variety of activities in order to accommodate almost all interests. There will be social functions such as picnics, dinners, mixers; educational programs discussing a wide range of topics; as well as an opportunity to participate actively in real “grass roots politics” of a campaign. / In order to organize all of these things, we have established a number of committees within the club (including social, finance, campaign, membership, newsletter, publicity, & Platform and Legislation) and eagerly seek volunteers to help. / Until after Nov. 7th, we will be placing a lot of our efforts into the local campaign for the House of Delegates. We have an excellent candidate in Reverend Paige Young, and with hard work, a good chance of victory. Mary Henry will be the Chairman of the Campaign Committee which will be working directly with the Senior Party in this effort. There is a lot of work to be done before November and we would like each member to pitch in and volunteer to help. Several YRs / returned to school two days early / during freshman orientation and / distributed the first newsletter and / membership pamphlets “why I won’t / join Young Republicans.” This met / with a great deal of enthusiasm and / interest and we signed up over one / hundred YRs before any other campus / organization even began recruiting. / This was followed by appointing / Dormitory representatives for each Dorm on campus. These dorm / representatives then canvased each / room for new members, so that by the 1st of December everyone on campus had been asked to join. Dorm quotas were / set up to give each dorm a goal to / aim for. The dorm with the highest percentage of YRs won the prize of / a plaque to hang in the dormitory inscribed with the dorm, year, and / percentage of members. This plaque / will be awarded every year, with / an inscription, to hang in the / winning dormitory.
