Article 1: MARY WASHINGTON / The Mary Washington College Chapter of the Virginia Home Economics Association is starting the year with its new officers: Margaret Roberts, president; Roberta James, vice-president; Carol McAfoos, secretary; and Pat Previte, treasurer. / The chapter members are interested in the AHEA’s plan-of-action for the years 1964-1966 and plan to base their club activities on this plan. The tentative program is so well diversified that each club member’s interest will be aroused. The topics explored in the programs may be: possible career opportunities in home economics, social aspects in America, social customs in Latin America and in India, money management, and fashion news from McCall’s. / Several of our members and professors participated in some very interesting activities this summer. Miss Beeler, the head of the department, and our four officers went to the convention of the American Home Economics Association at Atlantic City, N.J. Miss Jones also attended the Home Economics Program Planning Working at Pennsylvania State University for two weeks during the summer. Mrs. Jamison, another member of the department, attended a clothing and textile seminar in New York. / Some of the girls majoring in home economics went to summer school at various colleges to help lighted their fall class loads. / Several of our Spring graduates have started to establish themselves in their careers. Patricia Bowen, Madeline Rouzie Townsend, and Merle Hunter are teaching. Margaret Mahon and Patricia Glass are trainees in a retailing program at Richmond. Jeanne Johnson is serving her internship in a hospital in Oklahoma which may lead to a job with the air corps. / Miss Lillian Ann Dix, a former president of the Virginia Home Economics College Club and a Mary Washington graduate of 1962, completed her work for her master’s degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute this spring. She has recently been appointed as the eastern area supervisor of home economics education for the state of Virginia.
