Article 2: Honorary Taps Fifteen / The Mary Washington College chapter of Mortar Board, national senior honor society, recently selected fifteen students from the present junior class for membership. In an annual ceremony here this week the new initiates were tapped by the senior members of Mortar Board. / Dr. Joseph C. Vance, associate professor of history, spoke briefly before the actual tapping ceremony. New members and their parents were guests of Chancellor and Mrs. Simpson at a reception following the ceremony. / Membership in Mortar Board is based on outstanding leadership, scholarship, and service to the College. This year members were required to maintain a minimum 1.85 (B-) average in order to meet minimum academic qualifications. / The new members are: / Alice Finch Andrews, an English major from Richmond. Alice has served as president and judicial representative to the Student Government Association from her class. She has been an attendant on the May Court, a member of Sigma Tau Delta, and last year was named one of the two outstanding sophomores by Mortar Board. During the 1963-64 session she will serve as President of the Honor Council. / Bullet Editor Named / Susan Lee Armistead, an English major from Darien, Connecticut, who is presently editor-in-chief of the Bullet, having previously served as reporter, feature editor, and news editor. Susan is a member of Concert Dance, and is presently a freshmen counselor in Virginia. Susan served as project publicity chairman for her freshman and sophomore classes and has been a member of the Mary Washington chorus. / Judith Carolyn Bailey, a history major from Waynesboro, who was recently elected NSA Co-ordinator for the 1963-64 session. Judy has served on the staffs of the Battlefield and the Bullet, has been a Dean’s List student, and is presently a freshmen counselor. She is a member of the YWCA, vice-president of the International Relations Club, Eta Sigma Phi and Pi Gamma Mu. / Jane Hutt Cloe, a biology major from Frederickburg, who serves as the Day Students’ representative to the YWCA. A transfer student from Madison College, she served as a president of a freshman dormitory while attending there. Jane was recently elected vice-president of the YWCA for next year and is a member of the Day Students Club. / Sally Clay Crenshaw, a history major from Richmond, who has served as an honor counselor, a member of the YWCA, and a member of the Formal Dance Committee. Sally is a member of the Honor Hockey Team and has been an attendant on the May Court. She presently serves as assistant chairman for the May Day. / Donna Marie Glaspey, a German major from Belmont, North Carolina, who is currently a freshman counselor in Virginia. Donna has also served as an honor counselor and on a committee for Modern Foreign Languages Week. She has been a member of various dorm committees and is a Dean’s List student. / Alice Elizabeth Gregory, an English major from Tunstall, who will serve as vice-president of the senior class next year. Betty is presently president of Willard Dormitory and has served on several class committees. She is a member of the Home Economics Club and the Physical Therapy Club. / Carolyn Ann Hawker, an art major from Oak Hall, who will serve as a president of the senior class next year. She has been vice-president of the junior class this year, a member of the Art Club, Le Cercle Francais, and the Oriental Club. Next year Carolyn will do Honors Work in Art. / Counselors Popular Choice / Sarah Carter Jones, a mathematics major from Newport News, who presently serves as a freshmen counselor. Next year she will be treasurer of the ICA. Active in Canterbury Club, Sarah is also a member of Alpha Phi Sigma, Mu Alpha Chi, and Chi Beta Phi. / Mary Carolyn Kyle, a mathematics major from Lynchburg, who is currently the president of Brent and vice-president of the Terrapin Club. A member of Wesley Foundation, Mary Carolyn is also active in Le Cercle Francais, Chi Beta Phi, and the Mathew Fontaine Maury Science Club. / Ann Boyd McCallum, a history major from Fort Eustis, who was recently elected president of the Inter-Club Association for next year. She is currently president of the International Relations Club and a freshman counselor. Ann has served on various staffs of the Battlefield and the Bullet. Ann also has served as chairman of the Red Cross blood bank on campus and is a member of Pi Gamma Mu. / Bonnie Grace Ramsey, vocational home economics major from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, who is the recently installed president of the Studetn Government Association. Bonnie has served as house president of Virginia, and as secretary of Alpha Phi Sigma. A Dean’s List student, she is a member of the Student Education Association, the Home Economics Club, and Kappa Omicron Phi. She was recently a delegate from Mary Washington to the VHEA convention. / Treasurer Tapped / Linda Allen Reading, a mathematics major from Yardley, Pennsylvania, who is treasurer-elect of the Student Government Association. Linda has served as president of Randolph, as a member of the Honor Basketball Team, and is a member of Chi Beta Phi. / Mary Barbara Woore, a dramatics arts and speech major from Clear Brook, who formed the 4-H Alumnae Interest Group at MWC. Barbara has been active in the Wesley Foundation and the MWC Players. She is currently a freshman counselor, and is a member of Alpha Psi Omega and Zeta Phi Eta. / As a climax to the ceremony Mortar Board named Linda Mae Basheer, a pre-foreign service major from Richmond, as the Outstanding Sophomore as selected by Mortar Board. Linda served as president of her freshman class and vice-president of her sophomore class. She is a college usher and has served on various SGA committees.
