Item 1: THE TRUMPETER / a publication of/MWC Young Republicans / BOX 2464 COLLEGE STATION FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA / Vol. 1, No. 2 October 3, 1967 / HOUSE OF DELEGATES RACE / Paige A. Young, Republican candidate for the House of Delegates from the 61st District of Virginia (which includes Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, and Stafford), gave us his views on the local race when interviewed by Bari Anne Holden, MWC YR Chairman. / When asked why he decided to run for office, Paige said, “I am seeking this responsibility because I feel that government has become our master rather than our servant. I am opposed to federal encroachment upon our rights of the States and feel that the best way to eliminate such encroachment is for the states to vigorously fulfill their duties to their citizens.” Commenting further, Young pointed out that “good government is a possibility only as we seek to be represented by men of principle and integrity. We must be able to trust our representatives in all ways. / Regarding his campaign slogan “THINK YOUNG * VOTE YOUNG” he stressed the fact that almost half of our voting population is composed of young people and that almost half of the total U. S. population will soon be of voting age. He said, “We must become more and more concerned with the kind of future we will provide for these young people and their children – we have a responsibility to make sure that opportunities will available through honest representative government.” / Finally Paige commented on his campaign promises by saying, “I do not promise anything to the people of the 61st District except that I will represent them honestly and to the best of my ability. Through honest representation comes good government.” / A NEW VICE-CHAIRMAN / At the meeting of the YR Executive Board on Monday, Sept, 25th, the resignation of Mimi Furcolow as Vice-Chairman was submitted. Mimi has transferred to G. W. University in Washington D. C. To take her place the Executive Board elected Paula Parker, a French major from Wilmington, Delaware. Congratulations, Paula!
